The Italian Case: Breaking the Pyramid Down

Image
from Pxhere  ( https://bit.ly/2LX9H0r ) In my previous piece, ( Adoption Communities and the Social Media Pyramid ), I was telling you about  Virtual Adoption Communities  and their formation, constitution and position, in the social media pyramid established by Prof. Randy Hlavac [1].  I n the following paragraphs, we are going to look at t he whole  IAC  -  Italian Adoption Community -  the   " Italian Case"  - based on my personal experience.    As in Hlavac's, the IAC's social media pyramid has 6 levels  that can be analysed through function, population and focus .  Among the IAC , Facebook is the most popular medium; but it's not the only one. In  my interpretation, here is the breakdown by level: the first level belongs to " Social Networks"  / Facebook, LinkedIn, Tumblr, Quora and  (rarely) Twitter the second level consists of " News Aggregators"  / National Newspapers, e-journals, and e-magazines the third lev

ITALIANS: We Should ALL Speak Out There!

Megaphone_modified pic from Pxhere ( https://bit.ly/3bamZRm ) Have you noticed? Italians speak Italian , average doesn't speak English or speak other languages, but Italians professionals and culture are appreciated and searched for in each field. Do we Italian adoptees get to be invited all over the world to present our work and research? No. Do you want to know why? I don't think it's just because of language! I believe it about presence & awareness ... We are missing a net! Other communities don't know what we are doing; we need to be out there - TO SHOW WHAT WE ARE DOING!!!!... We should ALL present our work and speak out there!  We can do more than interview we can be interviewed; worldwide, people are curious about Italy and want to know about Italian adoptees.  Let's spread our work&word worldwide! Adoption Communities and the Social Media Pyramid

On Pxhere ( https://bit.ly/2YEjCzN ) Adoptees, how many of you, us, use social media? And how many of us are on Facebook?! Soooo many! Thanks to the   Social Media Marketing Specialization Course  offered by  Northwestern University  through  Coursera ,  I was able to learn more about social media, how they function, how they can be used, etc.  Throughout the MOOC(s) of course, Professor Randy Hlavac taught us that Virtual communities are generated by either passion or trigger event, and  can be found at the bottom of a social media pyramid (see picture).  Passion communities  are looking for new trends and gossip. They like to talk to their peers and express their opinion. The   tr igger event com munities  are looking for information and  trustworthy experts  to find answers to their questions.  Any virtual community is structured in three elements: members, influencers and experts - which uses specific platforms to connect, express opinions and share their or other p

Being an Italian adoptee, I realised our community is fragmented and isolated. Small groups of Italian adoptees are connected online and forming virtual communities. Italian reports estimated that over 69.000 children adoptees entered Italy to be  between 1993 and 2019. T he number of adoptions that occurred before 1993 is uncertain  ( I was born and adopted  in 1990);  there several adult adoptees adopted prior 1989 , so it is possible that estimate adoptee population in Italy is even large. Can you imagine how many of us are out there?   Wouldn't be amazing to be all linked   transnationally  and to breach the language barrier by connecting -  united as a country -  with other networks led by adoptees?! Adoptees in Italy aren't connected to fellow adoptees worldwide* - I want to make that happen! This is the  AdoptCloud 's blog mission, to  bridge and connect  Italian adoptees within the country and to the world. How I am going to do so? By featuring al
